Adsense - is it better to use a plugin?

Is it better to use a plugin to insert Adsense or other affiliate ads. in a Wordpress blog, or is it better to insert them manually?
I've inserted them manually in the past, and like the control that gives me, I can insert them exactly where I want them to be. But some, maybe most, plugins, only allow you to insert ads in certain fixed locations.

On my own websites I like to insert ads manually, first because I get control of where I want them, and it reduces the number of database calls needed. On the other hand I know people who use an AdSense plugin (forget the name of it) which automagically places an ad in the first three posts of any archive page and at the top and bottom of the post page and they get insane CTR and it doesn't seem to affect the server too much.

Ultimately I think the choice of manual or plugin is personal preference. One thing I like about plugins is the options some of them give that are more difficult to code manually unless you know php.

i have been using adsense manually on my blogs since long but recently i started using adsense using adsense manager plugin now and its so far the best wordpress admanager plugin i have ever seen

you can insert any ad almost anywhere on your blog excluding footer and header. you can add your ads on particular posts which gives you complete control on your adsense so it wont be shown on first 3posts only but you can add it on any 3 posts of your choice.

No its not my plugin as i am not a programmer but its just a user's review

ankit, is this the AdSense plugin you are using?

WordPress › AdSense Manager WordPress Plugins

I'm still using AdSense Deluxe, which is no longer supported, but does work with 2.71.
