With a plugin, it's easy to place ads inside the content -- instead of just in the header, footer, and sidebars.

In-content ads get the highest CTR's.

I have tried adding it into the template manually but, it doesn't seem to work. Does the adsense code have to be wrapped in some sort fo tag?

    Thanks in advance!

By the way, I use adsense-injection for my Adsense ads (in post). It inserts the ads in the first 3 posts on your blog, automatically.

Nope. Just put the AdSense code any place you would normally place HTML.

All in one Adsense and YPN does it all usually, but i prefer injecting the code directly in single.php file on my prefer location, like before post starting paragraph and at the end of the post i use that big rectangle ad block to make it look like Related articles plugin and that gives me higher CTR.

I prefer to put the code manually. Feel more comfortable.

If you want to put code in the content and that your content flow around the ad then you need to wrap it in a div and add to that css appropriate floats in css.

So if you want to cover all situations you have plenty of work.

All in one Adsense plugin will mentioned does it all.

Top left floating, top right floating, random, all center positions, bottom floatings...

That means lot of saved time for you.

For the latest website that I've been called upon to make (The Wonder of Christmas, *cough*), I had been using the All-in-One AdSense and YPN plugin, but I recently decided to switch over to manually inserting the AdSense code into the theme's .php files. This means that I can now better place the ad blocks in the sidebar, in the header (navigation), etc.

I do still like the plugin (and it's great for beginners or just to get it done quickly), but you can't beat manual coding for ultimate control!
