What are your thoughts about this?

I noticed the change this morning. However, after reading the article you posted, I don't see what's so important about it? As they say, "please keep in mind that this is only a display change, and that your finalized earnings will continue to be calculated and credited to you in the same way as before." -- that says it all. Yes, they might be "stealing" a couple of bucks from publishers, but I'm sure they've been doing it before too.

Maybe, but there's nothing we can do about it... So it's not worth to sweat about it.

Any chance that the confirmed earings will be higher than the estimated earnings

Not any different from before - it's simply a clarification for something that was confusing people before.
