bogart is correct. No major search engine has used the keywords meta tag for ranking purposes for over 10 years. AltaVista, who was the 800-pound gorilla prior to Google, was the last major search engine that used the keywords meta tag for keyword ranking.
Is is odd that Google felt they had to create a new meta tag just for Google News. It does not appear to work for anything else. One would think that it would be easier to simply set some guidelines for using the old keywords meta tag with Google News.
Google is as Google does.
