Will, is that the same order you have them in the code, so the sidebar has the lowest paying ads, or are the ads at the bottom of the page the last in the code?

That's a very important point.

The ads in the HTML source code should always be sorted by CTR.

what about image ads?
are most of them cpm ads? I think out of 3 units, 1 can be image only ad unit..
what say?

I generally allow text and image ads and leave it to Google to figure out which one pays better.

I don't know why, but ads after the content has higher price per click...

The first ad unit usually has the higher paying ads.

Pictures AD always pay lowest for my case ...... I did side by side ad, text - pictures - text, picture ad have the most click but lowest in value ....

Link ad bring most money for me

I found that one ads unit per article is enough on my site.

The way I see it, is the unit ads under the first paragraph so people can decide either clicking the link ad or skip the ad and keep reading the article.

So far it is working for me

I'm getting the best results from a 336x280 ad that's floated left/right and a 336x280 ad at the bottom of the article.

I agree with tip number 3. Blue color links still provide the highest click through rate compared to other colors.
