    4.66% conversion rate with Amazon

    I had a 4.66% conversion rate for the last 10 days with Amazon. What's your conversion rate promoting products at Amazon?

    I also built 2 new niche sites: standing desk and military fictions. I was planning to creating a book club script so I can build a lot of niche book club sites very quickly. However, I'm stuck with wordpress so far. It's not bad but it requires a lot of man hours. Maybe an automatic plug-in that pulls product information by the API they created for the affiliates.

    My conversion rate is generally so low that I've been ignoring Amazon as a revenue source.

    I may rethink that though, as I do love to use the Amazon product descriptions for keyword stuffing.

    There are quite a few Amazon plugins for Wordpress.

    My conversion rates vary considerably, depending upon the time of year. At Christmas time it can be 20% to 25%. In the summer it dips real low to about 2%. The average is probably 10%.

    Be careful with using any Amazon plugins that use the Amazon product descriptions and user reviews verbatim. That is still the kiss of death for an Amazon site due to Google's duplicate content filters. You need to either write the descriptions manually or scramble them to get past the filters.

    Duplicate content is a myth. All you need is links. Doesn't matter if it's duplicate content or not, at least it's true from my experiences.

    I think the duplicate filter is not a myth, one should follow TopDogger's advice as I can tell from my experience.

    @yangyang

    I read your blog post and I can see why your conversions may be so high. You write great informative content that should entice visitors to click through and buy.

    My experience is different. It is not a myth, especially if the content on your web page is identical to 10,000 other pages. When there are 10,000 copies, the chances that your page will rank well are pretty slim. I have been working with SEO for over 13 years and have been doing affiliate marketing for over 6 years. From my experience, duplicate content to be the most common reason for failure for Amazon sites and data feed sites.

    If there are only a small number of duplicates of a page, lots of backlinks certainly helps. Tons of links can overcome almost any problem or deficiency with a web site. But if you have a site with hundreds of thousands of Amazon products, it is next to impossible to deep link to all of those pages.

    I have several Amazon sites and the ones that do the best and get the most traffic are always the sites where I write my own content. A page can rank well without tons of links if you write good content. Good articles attract links naturally.
