How Long to Run an Affiliate Marketing Ad

    Hi,

Just wondering How long would you guys say is the most time you would run a banner advertisement?

I have had an ad on my one site for 30 days the ad has been clicked 160 times. However NO sales as of yet When a person buys my end is $40. The banner ad has been seen by 10,000+ UV

Would you switch the banner ad to a different banner ad from the same company, or find a different company?

What formula do you use in testing your ads?

What do you feel is a good rate of return?

    Thanks in advance

A lot of those "clicks" are not clicks at all. They are bots following the hyperlink path. The only easy way to eliminate the bots is with JavaScript ads. Bots cannot execute JavaScript.

Also, the more expensive the product is, the fewer the number of people who will buy it. With a $40 commission, that is probably an expensive item.

I have some banner ads that were clicked over 1000 times with zero sales. Very few breathing people click on banner ads today.

Today if I get any commissions at all the ad is successful.

The only banner Ads that are worth having are Adsense units IMO. Still generating income like clockwork after over a decade for me. But now, we need to focus on branding and user engagement to sell our sites for billions of $ to FaceBook and Google Well, even if we fail miserably we may net say $100K

Majority of people on the net are really blind to banners and links.
Really has to be a super banner and a great link to get clicks.

    Think of your own surfing.
Do you really click on banners of every site you go to?
Or click on links? unless they lead to something you really want to go to.

Yes, I get hundreds of clicks on banners and links.
And maybe one sale every 1000 clicks.

    Bottom line?
Numbers game, all it is now.

Despite what one may think, google and facebook etal just do not buy sites and blogs willy nilly.
Has to really peak their interest and either fit in with what they have, or a good reason to branch out into something new.

Look at the guy who started up WhatsAPP.
10 years back, facebook would not hire this guy at all.
Now, facebook buys his WhatsAPP for 19 billion dollars!

I's like to see how they did the math to arrive at the sale price. The company only does $20 million in revenue. Based on the numbers I can see, it's worth about $100 million at best.

I would like to, however Adsense decided that they don't like my site I still have my account, they just won't allow ads to that site any more.

So I am trying to find alternative ways to earn money.

I do click some banners ads and the amazon banner ads are being clicked and making sales

It might just be the cost.

I was thinking of putting some higher end sale items on the site trying to get bigger $$$ if someone bought. The highest priced item I have ever sold was $90 These are items that are selling for $500 $1,200 and up. It would be nice if some of them sold.

Right now I am selling a lot of $5 and $14 items but you really need to sell a bunch at that rate to earn any money.

That is why I was asking how long should I leave ads like that up?

    Thanks

Or, rotate banners using a rotator script.

    TopDogger is right.
To get the top tier (who I suspect do not spend that much time, if any, perusing sites and ads), you must advertise on the top tier sites.

And something I found out earlier this week...
best ad placements are at the very top and on the left side of sites.
Why I got another theme for iowadawg, so I can do that.

True, but in Sami's case a lot of bots are blocked along with bot-like behavior. CloudFlare can be added to block even more bots to make the stats even more accurate.

I agree about banner blindness. Click ratios and signup ratios on banners in general were way higher back in the 90's.
