But how much does one affiliate signup pay? If it pays +100$ than I wouldn't care much about it, as if every 100 impressions 1 person signs up you'll get rich too so

But it's true that it's best to not rely on affiliate marketing only

Another thing is that AdSense target ads very well.
With Affiliate Marketing you should target offers to visitors, the work is harder.

But, if you think your offers are as well targeted as AdSense, yes AM sucks

Well, an average of about 80 cents per click for your AdSense ads is very nice indeed. But with no indication of how much you would earn per affiliate "sale", it's impossible to draw any meaningful comparisons.

I mean, what if tomorrow you get an affiliate sale and it pays $1000? Obviously, I'm exaggerating here, but the point still holds.

Anyway, that seems to be a sweet niche for AdSense, so it may just be a case of unusually good AdSense, as opposed to a particularly bad affiliate scheme.

FYI, my AdSense and affiliate efforts hardly pay anything, so I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about.

Getting clicks on Adsense and on affiliate offers are two completely different things. You can choose almost any type of offer with affiliate marketing whereas with adsense you have to go with their ads.

You can definitely make a lot more with affiliate offers than Adsense - you just have to get the right offer for your traffic.

Honestly, it's probably much easier to make money from Adsense. You slap on some code and wait for clicks. Your content has to compel your visitors when it comes to affiliate marketing. You need to be writing for your visitors first, then focus on the search engines for traffic. People click on ads a lot of the times just to get off of a site, so you should get some reviews on your content as they may be a sign that something is wrong. Perhaps your content is drab and does not do a good job of converting your visitors. You must consider these differences, however, when you are trying to make money via affiliate marketing. It's not your product, but you still have to sell it.

What he said. If you want affiliate marketing to work, you need to work your ads and links into great content, such as reviews, rants, lists of resources, etc.

Great reviews will get you some conversions, but make sure they're as honest as possible. If you can demo the product you're promoting, even better. AM takes some time, but it can have a major payoff.
