Arrow Do NOT Allow Account Selling

Helping someone fraudulently obtain an ID of some kind is rampant on the net, but it neednt take place here.

In a recent example, a poster wished to sell Paypal accounts. That is a financial account, and aside from being something that could get the creator of the account banned at PP (who cares, thats his problem)... it could also open him and the buyer to fraud charges or a civil lawsuit of similar nature.

No, I'm not a lawyer, but I dont think it takes a lawyer to figure out providing or using a fraudulently obtained financial account is an easy target for a willing prosecutor.

Similarly, selling ebay accounts so that someone appears to have a reputation that he didnt earn does what? It willfully misrepresents his trustworthiness to the buyer.

Be aware that forum IDs are also bought and sold by these kinds of scammers. Today the guy behind the ID could be a benign guy with 1000 posts... tomorrow he could be someone that got banned 4 times for threats or ripping off fellow forum members.

Digitalpoint doesnt even allow this practice, and at *present* they have more scam artists than this one just based on the number of members. If we allow a blackhat activity (and this IS) that they do not... we'll boost our membership at the cost of attracting the people that'll turn this place into a snakepit. There is no ethical use for fake identification, so in making this a safe haven for buyers and sellers we assure that we'll denigrate the level of trustworthiness here.

I support the actions of the mods to shut down some previous threads of this nature, and urge that there be a rule prohibiting the sales of accounts. ~ Rob

I totally agree with the said suggestion.

For example, paypal accounts are verified as long as they're linked to valid Credit cards
which in that case, I'm sure no one will leave a credit card behind / sell it.

I agree 100% this should never be allowed, another reason is because people can get the accounts back, I've seen people scamming others with neobux golden accounts, this should be stopped ASAP before any member gets scammed

Yes - what you say is true.

We'll have a discussion about this and try to figure out how we can enforce this better.

Maybe we should just limit not allowing users to sell handles from marketplace and financial platforms?

What if someone sells a twitter account or a facebook group? This is something we need to debate about.

Maybe selling accounts from some sites should be disallowed. But selling Twitter & Rapidshare accounts for example shouldn't be allowed IMO as they can't hurt a lot

    I'll add my thoughts here.

Someone was selling an eBay account with a high amount of positive feedback. This violates eBay's Terms of Service and is also fraudulent and deceptive to consumers. When I buy on sites like Amazon and eBay, I like to trust the feedback and assume that the person operating that account is the one that earned that feedback, not someone who simply bought the account on a forum.

So, sales accounts and accounts used for person to person financial transactions, such as paypal, should not be permitted here at NetBuilders. However, I'm not entirely against the selling of accounts on something like Get-Paid-To or Pay-Per-Click sites, as long as both parties exercise extreme caution and are informed of potential risks.

    Ash said:
    1. marketplace and financial platforms
    2. a twitter account or a facebook group

To clarify my beliefs, I say that number 1 should not be permitted, whereas number two should be permitted.

What if I buy an online store and it comes with an eBay account?

Will - With the understanding that this is your forum and basically is a business (therefore not a democracy nor should a business be)... I'll accept the ebay store analogy and vote #2. If I'm not mistaken that would still require special dispensation from ebay to do that... but if you see certain types of accounts that should be removed from the rule that is your call to make.

Even if we voted for rule #1 and you went with that route for ease of moderation, you could still legitimately name specific exception to the rule of course. Given that understanding I have no objection to the wording of the poll. Think we're on the same page.

That said it is a good thing to test the waters and no doubt appreciated by all... how you handle it from there is your call.
