I think the problem is that someone first has to be smart enough to be able to read a map. I frequently question that with many of the spammers we get here.

But, people that are not marketing anything often have location set to off the wall stuff, and in that case it should not matter. But clearly, if you are selling something and misrepresenting a country where you do not have any physical connection, then it is a fraud problem.

Are you referring to locations such as, "Not in Texas" or "Hellfire, AZ"?

The guys that put "NOT in Texas", "Mars", etc... Arent trying to misrepresent anything. When someone in Bangladesh tells you he's in Canada, he IS trying to misrepresent something.

Paradoxically, it's generally done because the poster thinks it will prove their credibility. IMO, lying to boost credibility makes as much sense as screwing to prove chastity.

The location field should be blank or should have a location in it. Nobody here cares of course if it has someting silly, but using it to create a false comfort level is bullshit. I've seen sellers in locations well outside the reach of western law openly admit that nobody can enforce certain rules against them and use that as their support for shady practices. I've also seen some that dont admit it openly prove on a daily basis that it is their business model.

The best way to turn that perception around is for honest businessmen from the regions that have developed a rep for such behavior to deliver what they promise when they promise it at the price agreed. You cant fix a bad rep by pretending to be somewhere else, and lying just reinforces the stereotype theyre trying to avoid. They need to man up and prove theyre the exception... Not live down to the lowest expectations.

I thought that Hellfire, AZ was an actual place.

Coincidentally, I'm also not in Texas at the minute.

Hellfire is more of an accurate description of what it feels like during the summers here in Arizona.

Just removed a few more pathetic little dweebs from India that think the secret to getting ahead is to pretend they're from somewhere they are not. C'mon, Is it hard to figure out you're perpetuating the stereotype that makes you desire to lie in the first place.

Hello dears. I am Roger Bob. I am being from the Dallas Texas and my favorite sport is cricket. Nice to meet you.

Trust me, it is obvious. The fact that you dont know why IS why. We will ban people that build fantasy profiles. Not because we have so many people we dont want more, but because NOBODY wants to hang around with dorks that lie to them. Grow a brain.

I wonder if there is a plugin or mod available for vBulletin that automatically displays the country flag for the user's location. I have seen these on other forums, but I don't recall if they were vBulletin forums.

This remind me of all of the e-mails that I receive that say something like, "We is native Englush speakers from USA and we can write good contents for you web site." The messages almost always originate in India.
