Fake info in "Location" field - Don't do that

Regarding fake info in Location field of profile

Should not need to be said, but telling us you're in Florida or Perth when you're really in New Delhi will not be tolerated. If you have to choose between lying or leaving the field blank, leave it blank.

For the record - If you're doing that for "credibility", it's a terrible idea. Lying to enhance credibility is like screwing to enhance chastity... and the fastest way to wreck your reputation is to get caught in a lie. Save it for Facebook.

You know how it is Dawg... there are two types of folks in the world: Those from Texas, and those who wish they were.

I am from Texas, up here in Iowa.

I figure that once another 150,000 mexicans move into Texas, more Texans will move to Iowa.

You do need to leave Texas and check out the million mexican places in the rest of the USA and Canada.
Best in Iowa, cause they use only Iowa corn!

As a former moderator of a different forum, I concur. It's not good practice in general. MaxMind miniFraud is used on a lot of shopping carts and signup forms on the web. It can check the distance between an IP address and the entered location down to an exact number of miles and then rejects the order as fraud if it's more than X miles apart. I bet there are other systems like that, too. miniFraud has an API. I wonder if anyone will make a vBulletin plug-in.

p.s. I've haven't been to Texas yet. Or Iowa.

Not familiar with the plugin, but it isnt hard to police it manually once it gets going. Just not a good thing to have people near the marketplace who make their first action on entry a misrepresentation of fact. There are only a few reasons to do it... None of which include fair dealing with other members.

Just a quick reminder. In the last 24 hours we've had two users that posted bs intro threads stating they were in the US or UK when their computers were respectively in India and Pakistan. Both started WTS threads afterward. Both lost their login.

Dont do it. Nobody wants to do business with a liar. If that isnt the same in your culture, find a forum that originates in your culture. It is not acceptable here and it WILL lead to a permanent ban. You will not be given a second chance.

Seriously, If you cant tell where you are, buy a freakin map.
