    General Webmastering Discussions forum/section

Here at Netbuilders, there is no proper place for general webmastering discussions (The one's that have a broad scope and don't fit properly in the more specific sub-forums or wouldn't get seen as much there).

While such threads could possibly be posted in the general chat forum, doesn't seem quite right to me.

I already bring this up in another thread where I suggested a general forum for discussion of 'Internet Marketing.'

Why isn't the business category fitting for that?

Business (Using a more precise definite definition) and general webmaster talk/discussions seem quite different topics with different focuses to me.

Let us look at a random webmaster forum

General Webmaster Talk - Webmaster Forums UK SEO SEM Webmaster Community Forum - UKWW
Business Forum - Webmaster Forums UK SEO SEM Webmaster Community Forum - UKWW

An alternative to creating a GWD sub-forum would be to let people create threads here, if possible.

I've been struggling with this for quite some time now. I have yet to find a solution I'm really in love with.

Yes -- it's really annoying when people dump threads into GC instead of posting them into the closest possible forum.

Every once in awhile I go through GC and move threads to the proper forums.

That doesn't work quite right, due to strange quirks of vBulletin.

I could create a Webmastering forum under Webmastering. Then Domaining would be Webmastering -> Webmastering -> Domaining. It might be a bit awkward.

I could create a General Webmastering forum and put it at the end of the Webmastering forums. On the positive side, that would discourage people from posting webmaster-related threads to GC. On the negative side, it would also discourage people from taking the time to find the right forum for their threads. I'd probably end up just using it as a temporary queue before I move the threads to the proper forums myself.

Can you list off some sample thread titles for which you don't find an existing forum?

I was looking to create a thread on a generic webmaster topic (Which I since have forgotten) and couldn't find an appropriate forum for it.

Here are some existing threads which could belong to this general webmastering forum (If there was one)

    http://www.netbuilders.org/tech-talk/insulting-things-said-you-because-you-work-online-11200.html

You can't tell what it looks like. But you know when you see or think of one.

I'd put that in General Chat -> Forum Life. I wouldn't really want that in the "work" forums.

I could argue that this should go in the Business forum, but it does seem more like a General Chat topic.

    Hmmm... <thinking>

Every topic could be shoehorned into one forum or another. But some things just belong in "General webmaster discussion".

Also these general topics are likely to get much more views and replies than if they were in a more specific forum that many webmasters might not feel compelled to visit such as "Forum life".

In which case, "General Webmaster Discussion" would be a subforum in the General Chat forum, not in the work forums...
