Thread: Post Count Disabled In Sections Of Net Builders

I'm sure that I will be chastised for this, as I am a relatively new member to the forum. However, believe it or not, I have had time to peruse almost every part of the forum. I've been able to spot the members who have the best contributions relating to their post count/quality (Will.Spencer, Kovich, Razorloq, Hellas, etcetera), and the worst contributions (names removed to retain dignity and avoid enemies). I digress.

The point that I'm trying to make with this is that we have members with post counts of close to one hundred who have contributed a whole hell of a lot to this forum in a month or two. We also have members with over a thousand posts, 90% of which are one-line masterpieces in the General Chat section, in threads such as "Yes Or No", "Guess Who Is Next", and "Reason To Ban The Above Member", just to name a few.

There is also the Thanks issue. These General Chat posts with no meaning except to entertain the poster receive thanks on occasion. When I work for twenty minutes on a thread that receives three thanks, I am thrilled. When I see that other posters are getting thanks for "I would never ban you!", I get kinda pissed. And the fact that this is counted towards post count makes me even madder.

Why not disable post count in the General Chat section, as well as other lounge sections, and the Introductions area? These spots are simply for fun anyways, so why should the post count matter to those who post there? This would be a good way to figure out the amount of true representation and help that the members give to the forum.

Listen to me, ignore me, do as you may. I know that this has been mentioned on Net Builders a few times from what I've read. Maybe it's time to put this into action, as the number of members is growing rapidly. I already love this forum. I don't want to see it turn into another Digital Point. Cue shitstorm.

I disagreed with you, each part of this forum is still NB forums, every post is still a contribution, we will be no better than DP if we say cannot do this cannot do that, this count that don't count, etc etc... I hope this forum can keep the free spirit living on and not a place that has a lot of rules and restrictions like living in a prison IMO.

The activity at the General Chat already gone down a fold after it's announced that the $NetBucks won't be counted there, if the post count is disable then I think no one will want to visit General Chat anymore.

I agree with the original poster. This is exactly what we need in this forum. However, the choice comes down to Will and the other administrators, and a lot of others are against this as far as I can tell. But thank you for someone finally putting this out in the open. There have been several hints and suggestions to this, but nobody's had the balls to write it down.

One thing I agree with you is that yes most post counts are in GD section and most users must try to take part in webmaster sections too .

I am also one from those guys but from last few weeks I am posting on other sections too . I am running a themes site and keep adding god themes on NB sections too . We have so many active members and each of them can post one good topic daily than we can bang others forums in just few months .

It might be that I'm included in your 'bad' list, I don't know, I hope I'm not but it's possible. What I find so funny is that some members tell that 'others aren't contributing to the forum' because they post a lot in those 'one-sentence threads'. A lot of those members that post in those threads (including me, but I'm only posting 2 times -maximum- a day in one of those threads) actually contribute more, but people don't see how and why.

I can name a few people who post a lot in the GC area, but that have helped the forum a lot already -- That's why I kinda disagree with your post. Do you find the post count so important? It's just a number -- my number is bigger than others, but who cares? Am I a spammer because I have more posts, no, I'm an active poster that was here from the very first days of NetBuilders, I've seen everything happening (with a few others), some people that were here from the beginning are gone again, but this is MY place. I got banned on DigitalPoint, so I tried NetBuilders, and even with the low amount of members and posts there were, I directly knew this is my new homepage.

I would have no problems with disabling post counts in some sections, I'd like to have them 'off' in GC, Introduction etc. too -- But in fact, I don't care if it's ON or OFF. When buying signatures for example, you don't pay for the amount of posts-only, no, you pay for the MEMBER (which includes posts, but a lot of other stuff like WHERE they post etc..)

Hopefully my point is clear.

What I can say is a post is still a post, why don't count it? I can't understand the logic behind it, it's weird that you want to disable the post count for something that you have taken time and effort to post, and regarding the short sentences, does that means I have to spend a few mins to come up a long sentence where instead I can say it with a few words? Again, there is no logic behind it.

If you want to disable the post count in GC, I suggest you might well close the GC all together.

Like you I don't even care whether it's counted or not counted, it's for the admin to decide, we just follow rules, that's all

Either way, it's not going to change how much I enjoy Net Builders. If the post count remains active, which it appears is going to happen, I'll be fine with it. I'm not going to bash the forum or anything as a result of whatever happens with the post count. I understand where all of you are coming from, and I appreciate you guys replying as you have (at Digital Point, I feel ignored).

I didn't put up a poll because I knew that a poll wouldn't make any difference to the administrators. I respect the administrators, the moderators, and the members as I respect myself. I would never intentionally hurt anyone's feelings, and I would never want something for the forum that would end in more people being upset than happy. That right there would just be bad business. As the thread title suggested, it was simply a suggestion. Most other forums that I am a part of have it where General Chat didn't count, and I was wondering if net Builders would head that rote as well, as this is what I am used to.

Trust me, I post in the General Chat section as well. I appreciate what people write. I just do not agree that the posts they make should count towards the general post count. To tell the truth, I don't know what I want. But what does it matter?

nah. why disable such sections, i personally haven't ever post a reply in members intro as far as i can remember. but then users who are trying to be friendly welcoming people and help a lot to form this community.

As of right now, posts in General Chat do not count towards post count.

This is not a general chat forum. If you're looking for a general chat forum, I recommend OffWalk.

General chat is still open for posting, because we're all friends here and we want to chat with each other.

We do not, however, want to chat with spammers who are making insipid posts to boost their post count.

We have considered this decision for a long time. We have weighed the positive and negative effects of this change for quite some time. Traffic may drop as a result of this decision, but not traffic we want.

NetBuilders is here to help people make money by building the 'net. That's our mission and that's what we need to focus on. Let's get to work people!
