Thread: Tribes and NetBuilders

  1. Tribes and NetBuilders

I made the time yesterday to read Seth Godin's Tribes. That's not really impressive; the hardback edition is only 147 small pages.

Seth agrees with most of what we've done here at NetBuilders.

Seth outlines five things to do in creating a micromovement:

    1. Publish a manifesto
    2. Make it easy for your followers to connect with you
    3. Make it easy for your followers to connect with one another
    4. Realize that money is not the point of a movement
    5. Track your progress

Our manifesto is being developed here.

vBulletin and vBBlog provide methods for communication among everyone in the movement. These will not be the last communication tools we incorporate.

Money is not the point of this movement, as evidenced by the complete lack of ads here. But, making money for our individual members is key to this movement. If we don't help our members make more money, I will consider this project a failure.

We're tracking our progress publicly -- and progress looks good. Thanks to everyone who has joined and is helping to grow the community!

    Will,
Even though your comments and thoughts of Dec 08 are almost two year old now, I found it useful to come back and read everything from the origins of Netbuilders to put perspective in the motivation of what to post when!
Just like a restaurant, making progress to the 2 year point in a forum has to be pseudo-equivalent to keeping an eatery open past that point of its life!
    Cheers,
    James

  3. We've had a pretty good 20 months, but I think we have a lot more potential.

I want to redecorate and add some new items to the menu.

Webmaster forums fail because members do not have the time nor the propensity to make money.

Money makes time and the netbuilders manifesto the inclination to make it happen.

Great! Where did the 'Tools' menu go to by the way?

It's in the bottom menu bar.
