Thats a really important one. I don't think dp has that eh, I see many double or even triple post around there. Then the mods have to go around deleting them.

Which creates an antagonistic relationship between the forum moderators and the forum members...

That's what I'm really trying to avoid here. I am going to work my hardest to avoid creating rules which can't be enforced by software.

In response to a large number of requests, we just installed the Limit Links in Signature mod.

The mod was a little bit broken. I had to add a new field to the database manually. But, it appears to be working fine.

The field was in the usergroups table. It's a 5 character smallint named sigmaxlinktags.

Signatures are now limited to four links each.

Following a tip from Mr.Bill took me to SEOvB, who publish this interesting tip on Using the vBulletin Notification System to Increase Activity.

Now, members who register but have never posted will automatically receive this notice from vBulletin:

    <p>Welcome to Net Builders, {username}.</p>

<p>Thanks for taking the few seconds to sign up, and we hope it was an easy experience for you.</p>

<p>Now that you’re a member you can start making threads, and replying to existing threads.</p>

<p>You can also create your own blog here and submit your webmaster-related sites to the Net Builders directory.</p>

<p>Or, you can visit our chat room and just hang out.</p>

<p>I believe that you will find your fellow Net Builders always friendly and willing to help should you have any problems.</p>

<p>Thanks for registering and we’ll see you around!</p>

    <p>Best Regards,<br />
    Will</p>

In response to a user request, I have enabled "Show Users Browsing Threads" for logged in forum members.

Enabling this option shows the current members browsing a particular thread at the bottom of each thread.

    vBulletin Spam!

vBulletin is a very popular spam target and we're finally seeing spam posts show up here at NetBuilders.

vBulletin uses email verification and a CAPTCHA to reduce spammer registrations.

I just replaced the CAPTCHA with some simple questions to make is a bit more difficult for the spammers to register using automated scripts.

I also added an extra field to the registration process to cause additional trouble for their scripts.

I edited the vB phrase x_powered_by_vbulletin to change it from "NetBuilders - Powered by vBulletin" to "NetBuilders - We Build The Net."
    Store CSS Stylesheets as Files?

If you would like to store the CSS stylesheet for each style as a file, you must ensure that you have a directory called 'vbulletin_css' inside the 'clientscript' folder, and that the web server has permission to write and delete files within that directory.
I changed this to 'Yes' to improve performance.

I installed vBAdvanced. This is one of the most popular add-ons for vBulletin, but it is somewhat of a mixed blessing.

You can see vBAdvanced right now by going to the front page.

Most of the "big" vBulletin forums use vBAdvanced, but vBAdvanced isn't something you just install and forget. It is more of a framework for adding content, somewhat of a CMS for vBulletin.

It's going to be awhile before we can really determine if vBAdvanced is going to be a real winner for us.
