I have tried submitting some of my articles to article directories, but most of them want non-duplicated content. Its not worth my time to re-write the article just to get it posted on another site.
If anything, I post my articles on related forums.
Yup i did that a lot early with my first ten to promote my blog.
Could someone give a list of article directory site please? I know ezine, goarticles and articlebase. Any more?
you could just google it and find many sources of comprehensive lists, but answer the original question, I submit a lot just because I write only a few, good articles a month and I spend more time promoting each one.
For me submiting to directories good way to increase backlincks. Every SEO optimizer knows that nowadays white catalogs not actual and popular search engines prefer websites with unique and interesting content. So for today optimizing site with articles submitions realy good way to see you site in top search rankings.

Yes, I do and I get approved 99% times, since I'm an Ezine platinum author.
The answer is yes, since this the only reliable way to get back-links to your site which will improve your Google rank, i also agree with previous answers about article spinning, grate way to get more links without spending more money :)
Of course, article directories are very beneficial as you can get links from content, and most of the article directories are dofollow, you can use article directories for article marketing purposes too.
Article directories were once considered as very powerful ways of building new links for websites fast and easy but it seems a lot of changes have happened in the SEO world, especially when you study the reports about loss of ranks a lot of websites have experienced since the recent Google algorithm updates. Links that are gained from article directories today are not as powerful as they used to be several years ago.
The reason is due to the duplicate content filter which is in place. Assume for example that you submit one article to a dozen of directories, the links gained from all of them will originated from duplicate contents on copied pages. So they are not going to have very big impacts on your overall web position on Google. Of course submitting articles to highly visited directories will help improve traffic shares of your site.
