I picked up a new client whose site has a WordPress blog in a subdirectory. He told me how active his blog was and he is very pleased with it. He was surprised when I pointed out that with over 1400 comments, only 5 are legitimate. All the rest are spam comments.

I still find it hard to believe that people don't don't suspect that something strange is going on when they have over 1000 comments praising the quality of their blog or its theme.

I check out new blogs daily.
Find some good stuff that way.
As I don't want to spend (waste) my time looking at blogs for posts with comments, blah blah, for adding my comment, I can better enjoy the comments already there.

And yes, lots of blogs I come across are loaded with comment spam!
Those are blogs I just say, never back to you again.

Because you miss the occasional SPAM comment to your blog, what difference does this make to your ranking? Is there a certain level or percentage of SPAM comments that can affect your DA/PR, etc.?

Spam comments dilute the quality of the content. The more unrelated comments you allow you be posted, the more problems you are likely to have with your rankings for that page.

I have a listt of blogs that I have built upon, concentrating on higth PR sites, with CommentLuv links. These work, folks, but - please: Read the Blog Post you ar trying to comment on. If you do, you may find that you can't comment on it with any intelligence - so don't!

High PR sites do not add any value to your links unless the page where a link appears has a high PR. The PR of the home page is irrelevant unless your link is on the home page.

PR is now almost a useless number. You are much better off looking for sites that already rank well for your targeted keywords. Keep in mind that PR is not passed in comments on the overwhelming majority of WordPress sites because WordPress automatically adds the nofollow attribute to all comment links.

    The bottom line here?

Too much time and too much work to even bother with.
And forbid you actually waste time and money getting some company or person to do this for you.

Now my blog, iowadawg, getting more and more exposure because I link back, etc.
And thus they link back to me.
And then someone got me on digg!
Geesh....talk about some good traffic for a few days.

blog comment technique still works very well for me. I always make sure to comment on relevant high PR blogs only. Spamming thousands of irrelevant low quality blogs bring you nowhere these days.
