Question Do Blog Comments Still work?

Before going to work for blog comments, i must be clear in whether it will work well or not. Is blog comment working well after the panda and penguin? please make me clear...

See the entire forum here, just loaded with information.

Myself, I quit blog commenting as a waste of time.

Most commenting I see are nothing but spam.

Most who come to my blogs and comment are just spammers.

And more and more blogs are shutting off commenting.

See at some point, the only blogs allowing comments will be spam blogs.

That seems a little pessimistic there Dawg. I still participate in a right-wing politics blog {COTR} with a very active community building up around it. They have something like 45k subscribed and they held a meet and greet in Indiana this weekend that was attended by the governor, a congressional candidate, the head of the state GOP, a motivational speaker, etc.

Obviously that has ZERO comparison to the get-rich-quick guys that "blog" by stealing others work or reviewing their own products... but those were destined to fail in a fair market to begin with. I don't see comments as an endangered species, just see lousy blogs as an endangered species.

The cream still rises to the top. Seeing what the girls at COTR have done is downright inspirational. Gives ya something to shoot for. Their site is well monetized AND capable of disseminating info on a subject about which they're passionate. That's something to aspire to.

Okay, forgot that I do the same with a lot of conservative blogs.
But really, so far see no great traffic from them.

Guess probably because comments tend to number in the hundreds for each post.

    COTR is a good blog.
    Should go there more often.

I am not commenting there for link value, just because i'm passionate about a lotta the same topics. Until their recent redesign they didnt have a facility for links, so i have no idea what traffic benefits they'd offer. Just using it as an example of a blog that will never close comments. Their blogposts are generally short... topic fodder for the commenters. Now thats a helluva deal for the blogger.

Let me know what your handle is over there if its different fom this one. I'm over there frequently. Nice to see some bloggrs doing it successfully.

A few years ago I made an experience with that which actually gotten me banned from DP for a while that has proven to me that indeed forum postings made a difference back then. I have not and will not repeat such experiment, but have recently removed on of my sites from the signatures of this, v7n's and an even more influential forum and have not seen any decrease in Google rankings at all. Of course, DP is now nonfollow for non paying members, so disregard that one, but when I tried what I did, it was dofollow. The other influential forum I have mentioned is however very niche and from what I have seen, having a signature to a page of the same niche with anchor text related to it has tripled the traffic immediately.

But that does not seem to work with niches like hosting, seo, marketing or any web stuff in general. But then again, I am not in the forum spamming business and do not know if 100s of forums with the same signature could make an impact.

Not a practice I have ever participated in or ever will, but if there is some data you have on that, please do back it up with some examples or evidence as otherwise your above post is completely meaningless.

It still works, not as much as it used to be. But it still is an important task of SEO. I know there is a big possibility of spam. But it is a good place to put your back link. It helps you bring traffic to your web site.

I have way over 20+ sites and almost everyone who comes is there to spam....they cant even be bothered to write a comment to do with the blog/site....i have a few sites on diseases and Ive had comments on there saying things like " Love your blog, makes me want to go out and spread your good words" or "Dang that made me hungry..."

    Bots and spammers.....

Good post....but it made me laugh when you said you got banned from DP, Ive never known a site that throws around infractions for no reason. I got one for spamming, i wrote 1 post....spamming is writing more than 1 post......I now rarely visit there as you get their precious infractions for putting a post in the wrong thread and other stupid things....anyway sorry just a rant
