What do you guys think of Google's Bloggers/Blog Spot? Is it recommended to newer bloggers? Will it still be alive in 5 years?

I personally don't like it, it is annoying bad decision, I would recommend something else but Blogger, and no I think Google should destroy it.

    Hi,

In my own experiences, Google blogspot and wordpress.com would both be nice channels for blogging purpose. Contents would usually be indexed really quickly on these 2 platforms, IMO. Don't be too worried about the future of blogspot.

    all the best,

I recommend not using ANY free blogging platform if you think you may want to get serious about your blog in the future. I would ONLY use free blogging software from blogger or wordpress.com if the ONLY thing I wanted was a site where I could share photos or keep in touch with my family members.

You're much better off using paid hosting and the free WordPress.org version of WP IMO. If you can't afford $4-6/month to have total freedom with your blog then you're probably not that serious about blogging and should reconsider why you are even thinking of creating a blog.

I disagree. Free blogging platforms are incredibly useful for a number of reasons, and I choose to use them for some of my sites rather than pay for hosting if it isn't needed. Both Blogger.com and Wordpress.com have been around for a long time, there are some really established blogs on both that have high PR, have been in existence for more than a few years, and have regular readers. Don't knock a service just because it is free.

In my opinion free is great, I even have 'money sites hosted' on free servers, and if you're serious about making money online you'll use whatever option suits you best in that moment.

Let me give you a really simple reason why hosting a free site is beneficial - membership! You're a social media expert, so you obviously know why Facebook is so powerful as a backlink and a method of driving traffic/sales. Well, blogger and wordpress.com are exactly the same, they are built on their members. Each is a tool. Use every tool at your disposal.

Some of the best free 'blogging' tools in my opinion are blogger and wordpress.com, twitter, facebook, squidoo, hubpages, ecademy.

Blogger will definitely be around in five years, if for no other reason that because it is a google baby. I am not tremendously fond of it, but i do use it, especially for clients who are google centric. I dont care for its interface as much as WP but it is still fairly simple and seems to have less agenda than WP and may be more simple to utilize while learning to blog effectively (i.e. CONTENT IS KING).

To look more professional I would say buy a unique domain for ur blog instead of going for blogposts or wordpress

You can use blogger or wordpress.com, but at least buy the domain name by yourselves, never use .blogspot or .wordpress.com domain name. Those domain names are only good for seed site for backlink purpose.
