Thread: is blogging dead?

A few years back you could simply make a blog about your self and write your day to day activities and you would get a nice steady flow of traffic.

Now its so hard to do this.
I find myself spending more time doing SEO for my blogs rather than working on content.

It shouldn't be like this.

Even if you are the best writer in the world... somebody can out rank you with crappy blog posts and a few extra backlinks of high quality.

Is your question really "is blogging dead?" or is it "is it more difficult to make money blogging now than it was in the past?"

From where I sit, blogging is not dead. People's tastes mature as the 'net matures. I have no desire to read anyone's personal blog, with the exception of robjones', but then, he's a special nutcase...

SEO without content is like building a campfire on a frozen lake - sooner or later, you're gonna sink. Focus on the end user, on giving people what they want, and the rest will naturally follow.

Can always tell when Kat takes time off reading mine... a 50% drop in viewers is rough.

I don't think blogging is dead, i know i read a boatload of em in a number of genres. That doesnt mean all of them are making money, but i hope the ones i read make enough to keep going, cause i'd miss them. Then again i tend to read people i think would do it even if it didnt pay just because they're passionate about their topic.

Pretty easy to tell the difference between someone tht throws up content to fill the space between ads and someone that writes about something because they want to share with readers. The blogs i like would be useless if they started subbing out the writing to someone else.

The days of the blog as an online diary are probably dead, since who cares (outside your circle of friends) what you are doing unless you are a celebrity.

But the blog where you post useful information will not die anytime soon IMO. I enjoy blogging regardless if I make money from it. Same as forum posting. In fact, it is hard to keep useful information to yourself when you know that you can share it with the world.

I just blog away.
Heck with the rest of the world!

Now for seo?
Who bothers spending time every day on seo on a blog?
Geesh, that is a waste of time (almost like posting on forums?).

Blog will not die off.
People will, readers will, but blogs will live on.

The real answer might be that splogs (as in spam blogs) are dead, but legitimate blogs that provide useful information are still alive and kicking.

I almost feel like its a lot harder to rank because there are alot of SEO's better than me. I get to spend more time learning how to make articles interesting, editing images I should put inside the blog yet I think blogging isn't dead. I still earn few bucks from time to time.

If the last couple of updates have done their job correctly... "autoblogs" and spun content on multiple blogs may finally die. [None too soon.]

But the thing is, so many auto blogs out there that are still out there, still in the serps, still ranking.
Plus the auto blog creators getting more creative, with new ways to grab content automatically, etc.

I remember I requested to take down the autopost copied from my blog and the owner simply reply "go away!"
