    Donation to Your Blog

Okay, I have tried in the past the "Buy me a Beer (or coffee)" donation plugin on my blogs.

Never made a great amount of money, let me tell you!

Have you used this on your blog, or still use it?

How about a new alternative (not new, about 2 years old, but I just got it earlier on another forum)?

    The Donations Cloud Zirona

    From the site:

The Donations Cloud – donating the 2.0 way!

The donations cloud is something like a tag cloud, only that it displays – donations. The more a person donates, the larger the link to his/her website will be. (A special function ensures that small donations aren’t to tiny, and very big donations aren’t ridicioulusly large.) To see a “live” donations cloud, have a look at the sidbar of this page.

I have this set up on the 3 blogs I will be keeping.
I set it up so minimum donation is $2.00 (default is $5).
Plus set it up that the links stay up for 120 days (default is 30 days).
    And the links are do-follow.

See it on the sidebars of:
Random Ramblings from Iowa | XRMO.COM
    The Iowadawg Shizzle Blawg
The General Blogger | Blogging Anything

Of course, you can really check out how it works by donating????

  2. do people really donate?
i thought it will just work on freesoftware blogs or to some sites offering free CCNA or pass4sure answers and etc..

do you think donation button work on travel personal blog?

    Look at this.

People in usual donation buttons get nothing in return.
So of course donations never that high.

With this plugin, they donate and get a link back to their site.

    Something concrete for donating.

In any event will keep them up and see what happens in the next several months.

  4. haven't installed the plugin yet, but which page did you put their links?

Once you have the plugin installed in your blog, activate.
Then go to appearance/widgets to put it into your sidebar.

Okay, this plugin did NOT work out for me.
Same with 3 others I tried out.

If anyone ever uses this plugin and gets it to work, do PM me.

Or if anyone knows of another plugin like this one and uses it, PM me.

People typically ONLY donate when they are gaining something in return. The link isn't so important, but what is important is the content on the site. Should you be providing expert content that actually gives a service, they're likely to donate money. However, what I feel is that if you're providing content that great that people will donate, I'd rather make it a premium site and charge a small monthly fee. If it's automatic, the person forgets that they're paying.

I did donate . I donated for the fact that I got something in return. A do-follow link for my site. I would also be willing to donate if the site's content somehow helped me out with something.

Wouldn't an advertisement plugin like this work better? The positive things I see is when you use this on a webmaster-related blog, as most of the webmasters do have a PayPal account and can pay easily, while most visitors don't have PayPal. Webmasters also have favicons laying around of their website, while visitors wouldn't pay for a favicon if they don't have a website.

So the downside is that normal visitors won't be paying for a favicon ad, but if the site is webmaster related it's worth the try, no?
