Thread: Protecting your blog from spam. Also, what do you do?

  1. Thumbs down Protecting your blog from spam. Also, what do you do?

    Hi!

I have many blogs, out of which Let's Sermo was getting 75 spam comments a day.

    This was a headache.

So i decided to write a thread on how I reduced this and how you can protect your blog from spam.

1- You should have a plugin like Akismet, that catches the spam, at least most of it.

2-I noticed the spam comments. Most of them are coming from the same IP. So all you have to do is get a plugin like Wp-Ban and block that IP.

    This will drastically reduce spam.

    Hope this post helped you,

    Farrhad A

I use askimet, and commentators need two previously approved comments before they can comment immediately.

  6. Akismet Sucks, it marked my comment as spam and now all my comments are going into spam folder

LOL. Sometimes, Askimet does go cuckoo. I've sometimes found comments that are not spam in my askimet spam section. So, I 'unspammed' it

Yup. It happened to me too. The thing is that Askimet filters (sometime) very short or 'cliché' comments, such as "Nice site, visit http://..."

Small parenthesis - is it me or is there more and more spammers on WMP (with unreadable names like "KgffdxcuPh")??

Maybe it is this forum that needs a spam-filter. ;p

spam is very annoying and there is no program/plugin which guarantee your blog 100% free of spam.
But prevention such using askimet, etc...is good way to reduce it

Akismet saves you a GREAT deal of time and trouble and a tremendous headache. It works pretty well also, no spam comments have gotten through for me before.
