Thread: spam comments : do you actually do a manual review

  1. #21
I use Akismet also for my blog. I also manually review each comment before it's posted. I don't have much of a problem with spammers. I also don't have a problem if someone puts their website link in their sig as long as it pertains to my blog.

Hmm, I've always heard about this Akismet. Is it true that if if your site is sent to Akismet, it'll be Google-sandboxed or penalized?

a simple question to all blog owners.

do you actually go into spam queue and manually review and decide which one to keep and which one to delete. or do you rely on the automated system.

on a side note i use Akismat + NoSpamNX to protect my blog from spammers

whats your best bet against spam protection.
I use Akismet only. I only review comments that make it past Akismet. I flag the spammy comments as spam and allow the others.

I manually review all normal comments.

Anything caught in the spam queue is just deleted automatically. I don't bother looking.

I always run Akisment Spam checker, and then review the remaining comments manually.

Its really hard for a plugin to individually chkec if a comment is spam or not, i usually have a person who reviews every comment and decides if the comment is spam or not and then approve it.

    I look at everything.
The vast majority of comments on my blogs are just pure blog comment spam.

And short one liners are automatically deleted.

Most I put into spam, rest into trash.

Google will not sandbox you for this, but akismet will ban your ip and url when you try to comment further

    Hi,

I think manual approval might be only happen on small blogs without no too much comments daily. Also, Akismat is a nice add-on for filtering mainly might-be spams.

OKay, I been hit bad with comment spammers!
So I am testing on one blog to see how Askimet works out.
Started today, so it will take me a few days to work out the kinks and see how it goes.

    Why do people comment spam?
Do they really believe their spam will get approved?
