Default Would you consider turning off comments on your blog?

Hi,

Recently I was reading an article where many people were considering turning off comments on their blogs because of- few comments and lots of spam.

I would never consider this, as I feel every comment increases the value of a blog.

Your take?

Cheers!

Personally, no. I sometimes receive over 40 comments on a single post, and it's one of the things people recognise by blog for, so to then turn it off would be silly. As well as that, I'm sure I'd also lose some friends/visitors who I talk to via the comments section.

That said, if I ran a smaller blog where it got 0 or 1 comments per post, I might consider turning it off. Having no comments looks really unprofessional, so if you turned it off it may trick visitors into thinking that you actually ran a popular blog, which would look better and more professional.

Steve Pavlina (www.stevepavlina.com/blog) turned off comments when he realized that no one is reading them and that it was hard handling the comments.

So, he stated a forum instead, and I think it is a good choice for him

turning off your comments maybe good if you already have traffic to your blog. but if you don't have much traffic think you should turn on the comment, because more comment equals more traffic to come..
anyway.. you can use some anti-spam comments plugin rite.. like captcha or something else.

Surely I would not as I started receiving good amount of comments for my posts. But if it was a blogspot blog I would recommend switching off comments.

I get post ideas, questions, feedback, etc. from my comments. They actually help me direct my blog for my readers, so I don't think I'd turn them off.

On Wordpress, there's a plugin called Askimet. It comes preinstalled on WP, so all you need to do is go into the WP Dashboard, then to Plugins, then click 'Activate'. I find it's really good at picking up spammy comments, but you have to check it every now and again as sometime it marks genuine comments as spam.
