I knew a guy not long ago who was working the same shift as me. However instead of spending his money on proper equipment he would drink it away. This of course brings out a huge problem that I see with miners nowadays. Not enough people are taking their safety seriously.

We seem to think that we’re in the age of technology but that doesn’t make mining much safer. In fact the conditions we are exposed to are still very poor and proper maintenance of equipment is essential to our productivity and well-being.

For me there are a few pieces of equipment which are the most important (at least for me) this is because they are what allows me to be mobile, flexible and work in practically any environment.

What it really comes down to for me and a lot of other miners is the following;

1. The type of shoes you have, they should have a strong grip and steel toed covering to protect and prevent any broken toes

2. The glasses you wear over your eyes. I’ve personally seen rocks break right through cheap glasses; make sure your investment isn’t one you’ll regret later.

3. Mask over your face and the oxygen tank you bring down with you. Always make sure it’s in working order in case of emergency.

All of these different pieces of equipment are equally important when you’re working or getting back up. Most of the time as miners we don’t take the time to go over and make sure there are no breaks, cracks or problems with our equipment instead we forget about them until our next descent.

This is a dangerous strategy and by doing so you’re walking a very thin line. The Spotlight theme is indcredibly better than what I had previously thought about it. The title and slogan is in text format, which always have liked. We don't have to be editing certain image files for our sites purpose. The menu is very stylish, well the whole theme is, but still you know what I mean :). The menu has a drop down feature whcih is very neat. I like the way it pops down, and shows the links. The search feature has been in placed in a good location, and functions properly. One of the widgets on the right side, I love. The first one actually. You click each name, and it pops right under, instead of loading a new page. All in all, I really love the theme, and plan on using it on a new blog I am going to start up as well :)
