The main value is a website is the domain, content and inbound links. Possibly some value in the design and graphics.

But you are right that more cases than not, you end up spending more than you gain from a dead site.

    Hi,

That is an interesting point. I wonder if a wordpress site would make the same amount without a theme as with.

Just use the one you get.

If content is really king you might rank high. But as far as $.

In order to do a proper test you would need two like sites promoted the same way.

I feel that would be hard to do, because domain name would be different and content would have to be also.

A custom wordpress theme with a well designed website architecture can be quite valuable. Wordpress presents the content in chronological order. So many quality post become buried after some time. You can set up a taxonomy schema using tags. But in my opinion it's not a good substitute for a well designed website architecture .

A good example of a static website that has been redesigned with a wordpress backend and theme is the TopBits site.

We did that one in Joomla so we could use JoomFish and JomSocial.

But most of our websites are in Wordpress.

    The site looks good.

You never get a site like that out of the box.

  6. Sites I bought were more successful than the ones I built. However now I'm focusing more on the building.
