Hybrid View

  1. how to make blog with different sections?

    hi
i want to have a blog with pages/sections containing posts
e.g. a blog on webmaster with sections like
affiliate, tools, blogging etc.. and each having many posts (not like a page with only 1 post)

    please help..

    1. go with categories as navigation
    2. or create pages with loop fetching posts from different categories
    3. or install a new wordpress for each section with same theme
    4. anything else?

    Thanks

I can't speak on Wordpress since I've never used it, but I do exactly what you described using Joomla. Each link in the menu goes to a different section of the blog. The admin area allows me to create a new post and decide what section it goes in. No need for multiple WP installations this way.

  3. but i am already using wordpress... so i cant switch..
hey we talked recently via mail for 2host4u deal

    Oh, hi

If you want to switch, I found these links:

Joomla! • View topic - Import WordPress into Joomla 1.5
How to Import Wordpress Into a Joomla Website | eHow.com

Though, you might not want to switch since Wordpress is easier and you're already used to it.

You can eaisily do this with drupal. Drupal doesn't have as many bells and whistles but it is much better than wordpress as a content management system.

  6. is drupal a blogging platform too?

    plz tell me for wordpress

Good point that it doesn't have many bells and whistles unless you load it up with plug-ins. Also, Drupal's taxonomy system for dividing things into different sections is too complex for most blogs. That seems to be the biggest complaint from most people.

Drupal is more of a content management system like Joomla, but it can be used for blogging if configured that way.

You are right, drupal is too complicated for a basic user, but the taxonomy system is really advanced i am pretty sure that no other system can compare for example joomla offers only 3 levels if i am not mistaken.
Section-category-article...thats the way it goes right ?
Sut with drupal you have a infinite number of possible combinations.
But i too would agree that for a blog wordpress is the best choice.

I'm sure if someone masters the taxonomy system in Drupal, it would be very powerful for them.

The taxonomy system in Drupal is pretty easy. At first it's a little confusing but after playing around with it for 15 minutes the average person can figure it out. Wordpress uses taxonomy as well which is the tags and categories.

The strength of drupal is the "out-of-the-box" robust navigation and site architecture. The great feature is that users can move blocks of the site. Where is wordpress, they would need to redesign the template.

Both drupal and wordpress use php and a sql database. So they can do the same things. But the difference is that wordpress will require heavy modification.
