Thread: Hubpages Clone

I was very surprised last night to find out there there are no clone scripts of:

• Hubpages
• Squidoo
• Pagerank10
• Zimbio
• Mahalo
• Oondi
• Spongefish
• Gather
• LaunchTags
• Knol

I mean, take a look at ScriptCopy. There are clone scripts for almost every popular site on the Internet. But not these sites.

Why do you think that there are no scripts for this type of site?

Gelato is a Tumblr clone, but that's more of a blogging platform with some social networking features.

Perhaps something could be hacked together with the Wordpress TDO Mini Forms plugin?

If you were going to build a Hubpages clone, what would you use to build it?

I will have to look at the other sites you listed Will. anyone know if there is a clone for Hubpages out yet?

I would use Joomla as the base for everything and anything.

With J! and some good imagination and no fear of recoding whatever you need into it you can build just about anything you can think of. I know some people hate it, and you prob aren't that fond of it either, but some people [ like me ] really like it. I believe it's much more suited to be extended in more ways than wordpress and more secure. [ yes flame on ! ]

But now that you have a Joomla Topbits site, what do you think of it. Dislike joomla even more ? With the right person you can twist it around to do what you need.

Maybe you could do it with wordpress though, I guess it depends on what you or another coder are more familiar with.

Or if you are hardcore you would just build a clone in php from scratch over the weekend with lots of coffee or V energy drinks and go from there.

I'm one of those disliking Joomla. I'm sure you could clone Hubpages in Drupal too, and at least the result wont be a spaghetti monster or a Vogon bureaucracy!

To build a hub pages clone, how about starting off with Buddypress and making custom mods to it?

MyBlog is a multi-user blogging system for Joomla, that's kind of similar.

There is also Article Factory Manager, which uses Joomla as a base for building an article directory.

Frontend User Article List and Content Manager are kind of similar too.
