Thread: Keyword and sub keyword ranking

A keyword that I want to rank for has a lot of 'sub' keywords:

Example
[keyword]
[keyword subkeyword1]
[keyword subkeyword2]
..
[keyword subkeyword10]

The sub keywords are all different from each other but are very closely related.

For SEO purposes, should I write different pages for each [keyword subkeyword] or can I combine all the keywords (about 8-10) in one page ? It seems it almost doesn't make sense to write multiple pages since the keywords are so close to each other. Alternatively, I could write multiple articles about the different keywords and publish them on different places on the net. What do you think would be the best strategy?

If I register a domain, should I register [keyword].com or [keyword subkeyword] if the latter has more exact searches than [keyword] ?

I'm not sure. If you use all these keywords in one post people may be treated it like a spam because the keywords are very similar to each other. But as I said, I'm not sure.

If you register domain with keyword+subkeyword you will be better positioned for that niche on Google and you will need less backlinks than to choose only keyword.

I would mention all the keywords on one page. This way you can concentrate all the link building efforts to rank the page. But it really depends on how competitive the keywords are.

Do you plan to brand the site or are you just looking for some extra traffic?

I thought so too; I am trying to provide genuine information and hopefully create a sales lead off these keywords. Anything that even remotely looks like spam will certainly back off potential customers.

The purpose is indeed to register a keyword rich domain and create a separate site for it. This site with these keywords will be part of a bigger concept but can be regarded as a business by itself.

Yes they are, although I haven't found the exact metrics yet.
The main keyword has less than 1000 exact searches per month and the sub keywords a few hundred at best.

Good point of taking the competitiveness of the keywords. I will probably not use all the keywords on one page then, also in the light of a possible spammy appearance.

Possibly "brand" it. And as written above, it will be connected to a larger site which is one niche level higher. It doesn't need much traffic; only traffic that converts counts . The goal is that this site creates at least one sales lead between 6 - 12 months after being online and hopefully more in the longer term. There will be no adsense or other advertisement on it.

The amount of competition does make a major difference. Doing both separate pages and one page will help. You could get both pages to be indexed, and ranked well. Although focus on the keyword which brings in the most amount of traffic to your website

I think I will go ahead and make a minisite around [keyword subkeyword x] with the highest search volumes and the exact match domainname and a one way link to the main site. Then on the main site, setup a page around [keyword subkeyword y].
In addition I will write one or more articles to be published at other places on the net using the subkeywords.

A mini site can work well for something like this. There's also the danger of spreading yourself thin on the linkbuilding. Whereas, well targeted minisites allow to to gain traffic with much less effort.
