SEO Companies with a Low PR?

I see a lot of sites offering "SEO services" that claim to get you a ton of legitimate backlinks or even raise your ranking to the first page in Google - but these sites somehow cannot even manage to get their sites to the first page or even get a high PR. Why would this be?

Let's take this site for example:
    SEO Tools For SEO Experts

It apparently offers an amazing service, but it has a PR of 1.

Is this a reasonable warning sign?
I mean, aside from the fact that it has poor reviews if you search Google.

What are other signs to look for when spotting an illegitimate SEO company? How can we protect ourselves?

The PR of the SEO site really doesn't matter. But it would make me think twice.

To be frank and honest, this question or debate annoys me.

One should not raise this question until and unless the SEO service provider's site is at least 1 year old.

First, PR really doesn't matter and second; rankings for super competitive SEO keywords like "SEO services" and "SEO company" takes time.

Assume, someone is a new SEO service provider and starts selling his services through a new site today. He is skilled, confident and well-updated of advanced SEO strategies. Now, how can someone expect him to have a high PR and page 1 rankings? Impossible!

There are many questions that you can ask from SEO service providers to gauze their SEO skills and efficiencies. You can chat with them and see if they're up to what they promise.

If the company is old and still not having rankings for some of their niche keywords, buyers can be considerate.. Else, smart buyers have smart ways to analyse and locate the skills... and get cheap yet result-oriented seo providers.

SEO is about rankings on a Search Engine, not the Page Rank of a page. Check an SEO company's portfolio to see if they did good work on competitive keywords.

Also, never deal with companies that can GUARANTEE you what you want. NOBODY can guarantee you a placement.

I would not consider PR for SEO firms since attaining that for their site is out of their control. But the portfolio can speak for the company's behalf.

PR is obtained through backlinks. Which SEO companies get for you.
And they offer to increase your position for your keywords.

Therefore, why is it unreasonable to expect them to rank highly for their own keywords and have a high PR because they're experts at obtaining high-quality backlinks?

Yea! I don't think its fair to judge the skills and ability of a SEO company or services on the base of PR, as PR can be Manipulated and doesn't really matter as well.

    Hi,

PR don't matter but UV does. I think that would be what they should want to provide. Plus I'm sure that you have all seen a PR 1 and 2 site on page 1 of Big G and page 5 has a PR 6 site.

Well.. Guarantees work. And page 1 placement is SURELY possible as long as buyers understand that IT TAKES TIME to beat your competitors. Guaranteed rankings within a good and expected time is possible if the SEO provider is confident of his skills and already achieved good results in that particular niche.

If the provider's site is more than an year old, you can surely question their ranking and be doubtful.

If I'm a freelancer, I can help many clients rank higher without having my business site. But if I want to set up a site for my services some day, I would have a good portfolio but will NOT have page 1 rankings for couple of months even if I'm expert at getting very very high quality links.

As I said.. It takes time.

The seo company ranking for their own keywords doesn't matter. They may not want to put a large effort into ranking on keywords. The effort would be better spent ranking their clients for money.

Results can be guaranteed. But the issue is that as long as the seo company does the proper work they should be paid. The ranking guarentee is a kind of double edged sword. As ChillingBreeze pointed out the rankings may take time.
