[SEO Topic] What are your thoughts on this

Sorry, it wasn't possible to add all the info in the title

Anyways, I just wanted to know your thoughts on the following matter to help me decide something.

What do you think about using an aged domain, with aged backlinks, listing in established and powerful directories for targeting different niches instead of setting up a new site for each niche. Let's say I build a page/or a page for the niche/keyword I want to target and then I work on building links for this page. Same is done for different niches/keywords I want to target.

I'll definitely miss the advantage of having keywords in the domain. But, there will be quallity related links pointing to pages and overall, the site should look good to SEs.

Assume same amount of work is being done (content, links, promotion) no matter whether a new site is setup for each niche or the same domain is being used for targeting different niches.

So what do you guys think about this...........!!

If the niche isn't too competitive you'll definitely benefit from doing this, and will get ranked much quicker than starting a new site.

However, my belief is that the new keywords you're targeting need to be something a reader might expect on the old site rather than something completely out of left field.

Niche'S' won't be too competitive. There will be some competition, but not much.

Only category pages will be linked from homepage. So if a visitor is interested in content for that category, he can make few clicks to read them. I'm kinda targeting search engine traffic for this thing.

This works if the domain and links are sufficiently vague to avoid a penalty for niche jumping.

Also, be careful to change the site as slowly as possible, to avoid Google thinking it's an entirely new site on an older domain.

In the first phase, I plan to build a site for a niche related to the original subject of the domain. Then I'll add more pages for different niches, and will build links for them. Makes sense?

If you have a domain that Google has determined is in the "politics" niche and you build a lot of new content in the "health" niche, Google can decide that you are misusing your domain's authority and they can take that authority away.

Is your domain very vague (Wikipedia.org, About.com, etc..) or is it very specific?

I'm not sure whether it's very vague or not. History of the domain tells me it used to have content in english and french. Content was on hotels, restaurants, and had music/dance keywords as well. In 2005, it was changed all around and some kind of resource site was built. No page is indexed for 2007 and 2008 shows GoDaddy's parked page.

Keywords I want to target are related to safety, health, food etc etc

So what do you suggest? Should I go with this domain or new ones with keywords in domain names.

This is for something which is very serious and important, for which I intend to put in real efforts for rankings in Google.

If the domain is going to cover a lot of different topics, you won't really be able to go for a keyword domain.

That's why I want to go with an aged domain with old backlinks and some kind of authority. Please read my last post...

I'm confused between going with different domain for each niche, and using an old domain to target different topics by setting up different pages and building relevant links for each page.

There is no one right answer. It depends upon the attributes of the domain you have and the niches you want to target.
