Interesting concept. Might have to try this myself for my more important articles. I can see this being useful. I get a lot of searches for one of my sites from google Japan.

If we really think of it for a while, unique is something that has never been produced, invented, etc. We can not call the article unique, since a translated version of it exists.

Nevertheless, there is nothing such as duplicate penalty, so it really does not matter.

Translator plugins are a waste of time they translate absolute garbage. If I were to use this strategy, I'd develop a new domain with the appropriate ccTLD and have the content translated by a human.

Not in all cases. If you major aim is to build your "web presence" by expanding on the language, then using such translator plugins are good. Even variants of your articles can be submitted to non-English article directories for back links.

Build a web presence by publishing junk? I cant think of better ways of achieving this. Also keep in mind that publishing more unique content does not always translate to more revenue, which is the ultimate goal.

It might be junk for humans, but certainly makes no difference for search engines. Even the creators of Mass Article Control advocate publishing these "junks" for greater online control.

This debate is turning interesting

Human translation takes a very long time and quality tends to be very poor, particularly with technical documents.

On the other hand, automated translation adds more than $200 in almost pure profit to my revenue numbers every single day.
