    will rank dropp if

wen you first start creating a site you submited your site to some directories in exchange of reciprocal links. so you pr increase and search rank too
but later you realize one way link is better so you erase all these links from directories.

will your rank and pr drop the next update?

Why remove the links? Continue with the non-reciprocal link building and you should be fine. Over time through the process of link rot you can remove the links as there are reciprocals that know longer point to you.

I don't believe that the directories are sending you much PR. But the links can be helping you rank on the anchor text.

Why would you do a reciprocal link to a directory if your site is not a directory? It's not a relevant link and a complete waste of time.

I have to agree. As bogart mentioned, there is almost no link value passed from directories. When you link back to a directory, you are doing much more to build their home page PageRank than they are doing for your site with their link from a page that has no PageRank.

exactly. so i have to continue building links thru non reciprocal directories. but if i take out those links from reciprocal links, will it be the cause once my site's rank dropped and PR decrease?

I think what you are suggesting is to remove the link-backs from your site to these directories and if it will impact your ranking?

Well, it should improve your ranking short-term, but the directories may have a bot/script that checks if you are keeping your back links intact. If they find that you broke the reciprocal aggreement, then they will likely delete your links.

You may be able to no-follow their links though via the robots.txt file or via the no follow tag in the link html.

I would link back to them from a page that is only for link-back purposes and have this at least as deep into your site map as they have your link, so it doesn't make much difference to diluting your page rank.

The reciprocal link directories that people put on their sites will get you slammed. Though, there is still some benefit to reciprocals. But you should have no more than 20% reciprocals in your link profile with less being better. I think that one page with 10-20 relevant resources is enough. The best reciprocals are the ones that will bring you a little traffic.

There's no need to erase the links that you made in the past, If I were you, I will continue to create one way links for my website and stop making reciprocal links. this will ensure that my rank will improve and won't drop down.
