    Hello,
I have another question about this... let's give this as example:
    - I have a .com with Spanish content (I never go for #1 as most will do it)
    - I have a .es with Spanish content

Which will give me most earnings?
Maybe because of .com I will get 'bigger advertisers' as some may not allow .es sites...
Maybe some advertisers will pay a lot more for AdWords if the clicks are from .es sites...

So what do you guys think about this?

    Greetings,
    Aquarezz

I don't think that the domain extension will affect earnings directly.

If you have an .es, some people may be more willing to link to you, while others (.mx, etc...) may be less willing to link to you.

    I agree with you !
I used to have a blog where I teached to french-bloggers, english-bloggers techniques. And with only 2 or 3 posts I get rapidly good comments and blacklinks.

It's because it was something new for them. So I agree with you, the tips is to find something existing in the BIG english market and to convert it for your country's market.

I always use generic domain. I have read something about seo but it's mostly because whatever the country, people will remember the .com. A other thing, some specific domain is hardly to have. In example, all .fr buying request are checked by the AFNIC (french icann)...

This gives me a whole new idea. The only thing is translation. Google is not the best out there, but it does help. I find it makes mistakes, wouldn't this turn visitors away?

Like, I have quality content which I write on a daily basis, and I don't want to ruin it.

Oh yes, I get hate mails all the time -- mostly from French people.

But, those are visitors which I wouldn't have anyway, so who cares?

What do you mean, they are visitors you wouldn't have? Don't you want visitors to like your site and come back for more?

Sure, and I like ice cream too.

But... I am using automated translations. Not everyone is going to be happy.

Right now, the automated translations are making me $100/day. That makes me happy.

If the people like my site and come back, it makes me even happier. But, without the automated translations, those specific people wouldn't be on my site at all.

The strategy I describe in the first post of this thread is best for truly multilingual webmasters. I'm monolingual, so I don't have as many options as my more linguistically enhanced brethren. But, I do what I can.

Ah, i see. $100/day is actually pretty good with automated translations. I am going to give it a go for an italian site and french site. I'd rather try it out then worry about whether it will workout or not.

Found this interesting article: English-Speaking Web Users a Minority on the Internet

Byte Level Research publishes Internet Language Index

Worth to have a look at when looking for a way to increase traffic.
