Yeah, translating is good business, I make a reasonable income from taking Spanish or German pages and translating them into English, but I don't have the native voice for going the other way, and I think if you live in the EU spreading your options with the major languages is a good thing.

A couple of years ago I had a site with HTML tutorials that I had translated into Russian, Polish, Turkish, and German, and the traffic I got was great, except I wasn't able to make money from it and eventually gave up, but I'd love to develop some new sites in other languages.

If the people you know are prepared to work for normal Internet rates, you know between $0.1 to $0.3 per word they'd probably get enough work to build a decent portfolio and a great network, and that'd help them develop offline clients as well.

    Talking

Yes yes, for sure. A 100 word article for about $0.10/word means $10 for an easy job. I will talk them into it, this way I can get some articles for cheap..hehe ..

Yeah, thats what I meant too, but like I just used your numbers. I knew no one would be paying $10 - $30 for a 100 word article., i remember I paid like $1 for a 100 word summary from a NB member

I have a site in multi-language, and it seems most of my traffic comes from non-english keywords. But, what I realise after reading this post, is that I haven't build keyword links of different languages around it. And I have only submitted to english directories.

Could this be one of the reasons Google starts to discount/deindex the non-english pages?

Are you using manual or automated translations?

Google has been deindexing some pages which use automated translations.

Most of your traffic comes from non-English keywords? Very interesting!

That's quite an insightful thread. May I know what do you do for automatic translations. I mean, I understand "Google translate" but how do you actually translate your blog posting into other languages and publish them at the same time - all automatically.

We use our own translation script.
