SEOBook and SEOMoz are both paid, but they have very different cultures.

SEOMoz is more of a trendy social club; SEOBook is more of an in-the-trenches entreprenerial group.

Aaron is too well known, and that part of the industry is far too back-stabbing and competitive, for him to try claiming an "as seen on" that isn't true.

This is quite true. I'm a member at SEOBook, and a mod now. It's a very good community, or I would not spend my extremely limited time there.

If you keep up to date on seo forums and blogs, there's nothing ground breaking in the ebook. It covers the basic well though he definitely knows his stuff.

True. Aaron has changed his focus from the book to the online training pages and the community forum.

The eBook is great for getting a new person up to speed on the basics, but the hot content is now in the forum and on the training pages.
