Tonight, I was checking with a statistic tool online the traffic of my competitors which give approximately the market trend, and all the graphs are pointing down badly.
Do you check the traffic statistics and performance of your competitors ?

Competition is the heart and soul of all business, but don't spend too much time checking on what they are doing----------keep your own business in order first ---------- then go for a peep if you must![]()

Most the economic growth from the 4th quarter is from rebuilding inventories. If people don't start buying, we probably will dip back into another recession.

Krugman Sees 30-40% Chance of U.S. Recession in 2010 (Update3) - Bloomberg.com
It seems like a double-dip US Recession on its way. In 2009 me made 60% less than 2007. At some point it will be the time to close "the doors".
I will check the article, thanks Bogart.
It is always a good indication for me to evaluate the market trend, and it doesn't take long to check the reports anyway.
I understand where you are coming from. Most of the webmasters are affliate, publisher and SEO types. Where it really won't give you too much help "peeping" on the competition.
With retail it's a little different. Competitor analysis has a marketing and business strategy function.
Recession is a part of the normal business cycle. The businesses that make it through the recession are positioned to make the money on the rebound. What we are in now is a "see-saw" economy. So it's difficult to expand the business, beacuse any time we could drop off a cliff.
I tried to place a small order on your site and found that I can only pay with paypalI'll hit you back tomorrow so you didn't loose the sale. But I would consider looking into getting an additional payment option or have a way that people can send checks.

That's great thanks Bogart.
We had a merchant account before for more than a year but they raise many time their fees and too much transactions were declined. Address mismatch with the CC companies, over limits, etc Anyway too much troubles for what we are running each month.
I don't know if Paypal is still providing e-checks. Paypal works very well for us and you don't need an account to pay us with all the credit cards they take. Beside that we don't sell like we use to.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
Another option that you could give for payment is to allow payment by check via "snail mail". Perhaps have a way to print the invoice.
I buy products from some companies and it seems that they have a simple solution for credit cards where they take the information. Then it appears that they run the credit card via a merchant account and send the confirmation via email with the order number.
I can't really say that looking into other payment solutions will be worthwhile. But you may be losing some sales due to having paypal as the only payment option.
With business slowing you should look for some ideas to try to get to more sales. Have you considered selling some hemp clothing. It would go with your natural theme. It shouldn't be hard to find a couple of low cost items and see if they will sell.
Another thing that I would consider is finding some direct match keywords and adding a wordpress blog to them with a few articles to drive traffic to your site.
