The number of google results isn't a good metric to judge the competitiveness of a keyword. The number of results that Google shows is unreliable. So, you should take other factors in consideration to determine a competive keyword:
1) The cost of the keyword - you can use Spyfu to estimate.
2) The number of competitors in competition for the keyword
3) The strength of the competition on the keyword
So, basically the cost should be equal to the effort required to rank on the keyword.
