How to start a mobile App store.

I am thinking of starting a mobile app store.

but i am at ground zero can anyone guide me on how i can start and proceed forward on this.

  2. Well you would need a platform,on what would your apps run ?
    Is there competition ?
Would you make the apps or do you have developers who are interested in making apps for your store ?
Just the first questions that came to mind when I read your post.

My first thought is that you will have a very difficult time selling mobile apps from unknown developers unless you have a source for the most popular apps that users are already familiar with.

apps mostly for java based handset with addition of android or iphone apps at a later stage.

competition includes getjar as the largest one.

thinking of developing something which is Zedge.net + getjar combined.

you are reffering to apps for so called dumb phones...you have a lot of limitations for those platforms...like your apps would have to be free in order to be popular and they should not require a internet connection, and also work on as many devices as possible (can be a pain in the ass)
But there is a tiny market for that, for example. a good offline dict. would be a nice thing and things like that, but not the ideal business model if you ask me,too many complications, you would have to create a market for yourself

well another side of the coin i am not targeting small no of high end phones but trying to target large number of low end phones which are now available to most of the people.

Note : I belong to India where smart phones are still considered luxury.

I do understand your point, and yes, smartphones are far from the majority of cell phones, but you should keep in mind that the apps will always be somewhat of a low quality and the functionality is very limited.
For example I use a k800i as my cell phone, just for calling and texting, but I use a iPod Touch for Email,Calendar,Notes etc.

    thanks for the info.

i will definitely keep this in mind.

another thing that i plan to mix match is provide a sleek way to get wallpapers, screensavers, gif, themes etc coz that is something i can provide a lot quickly.

  9. No problem, just keep in mind to keep the apps avaliable for as many phones as possible and try not to make them internet dependent

  10. Good luck with this,I'm sure its gonna take a lot of work
