I need ideas!!!
I have a Sunfire v880 with the following configuration:
2 x 900mhz Ultrasparc III processors
8-MB External Cache per Processor
6 73-GB 10000 RPM FC-AL Disk Drives
1 DDS4 Tape Drive
1 DVD-ROM 10 Drive
1 Gigabit Ethernet Port
1 10/100BASE-T Self-Sensing Ethernet Port
2 RS-232C/RS-423 Serial Ports
3 1500-Watt Power Supplies
This beast of a machine was given to me, and I have no clue as to how to go about renting it out, I'm racking my brain trying to figure out the ways I can use it to make money. Any suggestions?
And where do you have that machine?
I mean, what type of internet connection will you provide? Where is it collocated?
(this is a first question to understand what you have in hands) ;)
It's not at a colo, should it be? Would that be a cheaper alternative? I have a 25 Mbps/15 Mbps Fios business class connection
Put it on ebay and sell it. If I remember right, the Ultrasparc processor is for the Sun Microsystems operating system.
Selling it is not an option, I want to use it to make money for me, any ideas???
I don't think you'll be able to resell any hosting there, you should use it on your own or sell the equipment as that type of connections just isn't enough to host any accounts. ;)

I suggest you check what most host resellers are offering, but honestly, I don't think you'll be able to sell any host with that connection.
Check out what a few hosting companies have to offer:
WiredTree Network | Network within a Network | WiredTree
Network Security Solutions | Network Products
You really have a hell of a machine there, but most of us have sites that could "kill" it in seconds.
The hosting world really does seem to run only on Linux these days.
Solaris has much better market penetration in corporate datacenters.
