Has the website been submitted to those search engines?
I registered a domain for my client in the morning, and setup a temporary page that say 'Under Construction'.
In the late afternoon (same day), I received an SMS from him asking me why he can't find the temporary site when he type the url at the search box at Yahoo or Google. Yes, he type the whole url in the search box.
If you had a client like this, what will your response be like?
Just tell him you bought the domain, and if he wants to appear in the search engines he will need to have a website developed. Domain -> no result, Website -> result, even though in reality its not always true.
That's normal, you need to pay $5000,- to get listed in search engines, pay me $3,000 and I'll make sure you get listed too!
That's what my answer would be

Sir/ Madam, in order to get your site listed in Google or Yahoo, you must first make some content on the site and then submit to those search engines. If you would like, we do offer website design services and submission services for a small fee each, and you may order that through our billing system if you would like.
As far as my experice are concern for clients are that there are every kind of client you may came across.
I always beleive that we must satisty in every possible manner as he is paying us the price which we have asked for.
By this we can developthe habit of giving the respect to them which they deseve weather small or big and if he gives you repeat order is your key to sucess.
