Thread: Multi-owner Websites?

    Multi-owner Websites?

    anyone knows any "Multi-owner Websites"?

I mean websites that are jointly run by many webmasters.

    I don't mean free hosting sites/ blogging platforms/ revenue-sharing sites.

I mean sites that are run by 5-10 people who share the profits/work/costs related to the sites.

    ================================

I have been into this webmastering business for some time now.

I have noticed that many webmasters have websites related to the popular niches.

e.g. I am sure at least 50 webmasters on NB have a weight-loss related site.

wouldn't it be a better idea if 8-10 webmasters came together and made a mega-site on weight loss.

IMO, such a site would have much great potential than 8-10 smaller sites.

the mega-site may have the same content that these 8-10 smaller sites would have had, but because the content is all on one domain and all 8-10 webmasters are working for getting links to this site, it can perform much better in SERP's.

    what's your opinion?

  2. its a good idea though the problem that may come along with that is the revenue.
the share of thier revenue and which percentage goes to which owner

you know, too many webmasters can ruin everything and cause problems for example who wants to be the "head webmaster" and possible issues such as duplicated submissions at site directories etc.

A spreaded project would be cool indeed. But there is always the problem that one of them will do way much more then the others. Even if you said at the start it wouldn't be like that

    But it's cool indeed

maybe if we give everyone their own pages and allow them to use their own affiliate codes/banners on those own pages, revenue distribution won't be an issue.

e.g. we can create a site using the wordpress platform.

there would be 10 partners to start with.

each would be allowed to add 10 pages to the site.

the site will have 100 pages to start with.

additionally, each webmaster can add 1 page once every month.

this will allow everyone to have the top post on the home page for 3 days in a month.

the 10 webmasters should build links to their individual posts and all sales made via those particular pages would be theirs.

And the earnings made through Adsense? On who's account will it be? Just an example

If I am using affiliate programs on a site, I won't really use Adsense on the same site.

and even if Adsense is used, we can have separate codes or channels.

another possible solution could be to create a "reserve" out of the Adsense earnings and use it to create more links to the home page of the blog/site.

Should work well as long as the website is organized as a Business. Easy enough to set up a partnership or corporation. There's already plenty of multi-owner websites i.e. ebay and amazon.

A lot of the most successful multi-owner websites started with two friends or two brothers, etc. In other words, people you can trust more than anyone. You don't just start a business or a website with people you can't trust. It's a GREAT idea if you have the people in your area, but dealing with each other over the internet can be tricky and complicated.
