Has anyone here tried oDesk?

oDesk is kind of like RentACoder, except it's designed around hiring people hourly instead of by project. This can be a lot easier for me, at times.

It also has an advantage over RentACoder in that a lot more data about each person is available and searchable.

It seems like this could be a good place to find people with some very specific skill sets.

What do you think?

Yeah actually I have.

I am down as an employer and also "for hire" as well.

Its not all per hour. You can get fixed qoutes for projects too.

Another one I use is guru.com

What I like about guru.com and Odesk is the the escrow service where you get your money back if the person(s) does not perform 100%


These two are pretty much the only two I use as getafreelancer.com and other places are very poor quality (easy to get scammed too!)

I finally got off my duff and posted a project at oDesk. I sent three invitations and received about thirty responses -- and this was for a very "niche" project.

The project was building a plugin to modify one of the core parts of Joomla.

I'm testing out my first oDesk "provider" right now.

Will what was approx cost of this? As I need a mod made for different script but might give me a price range.

seems like those people have to bid.

The developer I hired is $13/hr and he's estimated a couple of days on this project.

What's the update on this, guys. I'm curious if odesk is a good place to recruit people for long term writing and link building work, or is it mostly good for finding someone to do a certain project quickly?

vWorker (was: RentACoder) seems better for projects; oDesk seems better for long-term contractors.

Well I am working as an SEO and I try to get work from odesk. Do you have some hourly basis projects like site promotion etc ??
