    Payment Services

PayPal's last four sets of screwups on with my account have me thinking about alternative payment services.

The market for "payment services" is defined pretty loosely. Some systems are focused on allowing merchants to accept payments, others are focused on helping parents send money to their kids on college, and some are focused on enabling anonymous money transfer for reasons unknown.

Does anyone know of a really good way to categorize payment systems like these?

Once categorized, the next question is what data to list about each payment system.

Data listed should be "hard" and verifiable. Soft data can be added later via comments.

What data would a potential customer want to know about a payment system?

    Here's my initial field list:

    • Country of Origin
    • Date Founded
    • Methods of Deposit
    • Methods of Withdrawl
    • Countries Served
    • Fees

    For me the most important considerations are;

Can I use an email address to send and receive funds?
Will the processor allow me to link my bank savings account for deposits and withdrawals?
Do merchants and affiliate programs accept this processor?
Do they operate in the USA, Canada, the EU?
Can I setup a donate button/payment button on my website?
What restrictions do they place use? (Paypal won't let webmasters be involved in certain niches)

Any1 here is using Google Checkout?

I mean, G Checkout seriously needs a kick-off, and Netbuilders can just be the right place for it...

I know nothing about them. Are they equivalent to PP, or different?

For someone like me (India) , it's really important to know if it allows withdrawal and funding of account via bank account.

You are quite right about PayPal since it has always been giving trouble to its user for no specific reasons.

I'd say what people want to know about a payment system is that:

1)- Is Reliable (can be trusted)
2)- Easy to Manage funds (Withdraw / Add)
3)- Accepted by Large number of people
4)- Serves Most Countries with no limits like Send/Receive Only

Google checkout is something different than PayPal. Google Checkout is more like a Credit Card processor which means you can't store money in your Google checkout account like PayPal. You have to use credit card to pay and unlike paypal you can't just send money to other Google checkout user.

Don't think so. I consider them completely different than PayPal

Agree with you because the most important thing for a Payment processor user is to know how secure is that and how fast they could get money out of their account.

Thanks Khan, that makes G Checkout completely impractical for me
