I know we normally only read "Bad Stuff" about PayPal, etc...but an experience I just had with them today on the "Good" side:
1 - Someone has stolen my PayPal debit card in the past week from somewhere...
2 - Opened an Adwords Account using my cc
3 - Charged > 400 bucks to adwords with it, 50 bucks to some online gaming detal, etc.
- Stopped the >400 dollar charge on their own (note they were smart enough to differentiate this from my normal adwords account somehow....)
- They still paid the 50 bucks and a 2.23 fee to Google
I called after seeing the 50 dollar charge go through today (I use email notification to my phone)...
They immediately refunded the money, had me cancel the card, and have a new one coming...
My "normal" debit card/credit card companies would have taken > 1 week to do the same. I did this all in about 20 minutes. No money out of my pocket.
*Someone* however has gotten >420 bucks out of Google though...
My only fear now is how to contact a human at Google to say "Wasn't me"....or do I bother???

Glad you have your money back, but a strong competitor to PayPal would would be welcomed as their fees are horrible, and I have heard some bad stories about PayPal as well.
Yeah, right now am still trying to figure out 1 - How to communicate this theft to Google, 2 - Will they tell me the URL's that the thief used the bogus Adwords account on? 3- Will a human at Google Communicate with me? 4 - Am I in any danger of repurcussions from Big G for this?
The pain in the rear of course is having to cancel the card, wait forever for a new one, etc.
PayPal fees are horrible, what about those million webmasters?
I recently left Brazil where PayPal fees are 7.4% + Fixed Fee !!!
PayPal increased Fees and Policy Update
Not that PayPal had anything to do with you leaving Brazil, but what made you leave?
Everyone I've met from there (that isn't living there) wants to go back yesterday....everyone who visits seems to come back with a new wife or husband (*even if they were married...) and wants to go back to stay...
Never been, but its on the list!
Oh, to make this relevant to the thread (sorta)...does PayPal or "pick your bank" draw interest on our money in the 2-4 days it takes for PayPal -> Bank transfers???
Right now I am in Ecuador, where I am about to get the residence permit, too.
Prices here are roughly 20% that of Brazil, except for cars for example which only cost about half the price of those in Brazil.
Sorry for digressing. Now I also own a verfied PayPal account in Ecuador, and fees are about half of what they used to be, partly because Ecuador has the US dollar as official currency.
BTW: Should anyone have a question about Ecuador or Brazil, please feel free to contact me, I will be happy to help out.
PayPal is actually doing a great job these days of refunds and dispute issue handling. Sometimes you get the complacent attitude from certain companies but I guess PayPal is cleaning up their act. I wonder if people have been complaining or something because their attitude has SURELY changed!
I love PayPal. I remember I did a transfer from my bank to paypal and they call me to verify the transfer. And I had had a few disputes with them, and they had been very helpful in all aspects.
About the 2-4 days it takes for the money transfer. If they make some money with the delay, I understand and I approve it because they don't charge you for the transfer.
I just had one experience, after a huge transfer to my account from one of my clients, i got a call from paypal, they asked me few questions as to the nature of business that i was doing and what was i doing for my client to get that kind of money, i said what i was supposed to do for the client (a fortune 500 company) and they confirmed from the client too, since then never had a call or problem from them, though from my experience they have some of the best prices and charges when you compare some of the competitors and payment processors from around the world, IMO.
