    PayPal Sucks

The morons at PayPal have limited my business account four times this week.

Here's their latest email, and the most ridiculously stupid one yet.
    Dear Free Internet Media,

Were sorry, but we cannot restore full access to your account until we receive additional information. Please provide a copy of each of the following items:

    - Your monthly statement for the bank account ending in XX1234. The statement must show your name, address, and account number exactly as they appear in your PayPal account.

    - A current utility bill. The bill must show your name and address exactly as they appear in your PayPal account.

    - Your driver's license or passport. Please make the copy as large and as light as possible.

    Case number: PP-123-456-789

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    How to provide your information
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
You can either upload or fax your information to us.

    To upload:
    - Log in to your PayPal account.
    - Go to the Resolution Center.
    - Under "Steps to Remove Limitation," click "Resolve."

    To fax:
    - Please use the fax cover sheet provided by PayPal.
    - To print the cover page, log in to your account and click the "Fax Documents" link on the Limited Account Access Details page.
The cover page contains information specific to you, and using it ensures that your documents are directed and handled promptly. If you do not have a PayPal cover sheet, you can create one by including your name, the email address registered on your PayPal account, and the case number starting with PP-xx-xx-xx.
    - Fax your information to 402-537-5731

    Sincerely,
    PayPal

I have been a PayPal customer for many years; there is absolutely no excuse for them to treat me shabbily.

I called them on the telephone and here's what I was told:
    • I'm not in the department that can help you.
    • I can't transfer you to the department that can help you.
    • I can't give you the telephone number of the department that can help you.
    • I can send the department a note, but they won't help you until you acceed to all of their demands.
PayPal's demands are both ridiculous and onerous. No valued customer should be put through this amount of abuse.

These idiots are living in the 1950's. I don't have a utility bill; we have a luxury apartment and utilities are included. I don't get bank statements; print is dead. For a company that was founded on the Internet, PayPal is disgustingly low-tech. They actually sent me a fax number. A fax, how quaint! I guess their telegraph key is broken.

I am depressed to be trapped on a planet with people this stupid.

Just when I thought that PayPal could not be any more retarded, I received this email from them:

    Hello Will Spencer,

We want to help you but we're not able to respond directly to emails sent to this address.

One of the best ways to get answers to your questions is to go to the PayPal website and visit the Help Center by clicking "Help" at the top of the page.

If you have a problem with limited access to your account, you'll need
    to:

    1. Go to the PayPal website and log in to your PayPal account.
    2. Click "Resolution Center" at the top of the page.
    3. Follow the instructions in "Steps to Remove Limitations."

If you can't log in to your account, you'll need to:

    1. Go to the PayPal website.
    2. Click "Contact Us" at the bottom of any page.
    3. Click "Contact Customer Service."
    4. Click "Continue" and follow the instructions.

We value your business and want to provide you with the best customer care.

    Thanks,

    PayPal
So this company, which was born on the Internet, is too stupid to be able to use email properly.

Unfortunately, I know the form of which they speak. I used it many times when they limited my account a few years ago. I used it many times only because no one ever responded to my form submissions. That form is useless. That time though, a few telephone calls sorted out the problem.

PayPal has worse customer service than the Internal Revenue Service.

I agree - I haven't had much trouble recently but when i have talked to them on the phone they seem to have different departments for each of the questions/queries I had. Also they called them "agents". Here in NZ we don't call them "agents" and I couldn't work out what the hell they were on about, they don't seem to be catering for the whole world.

Also in the past I have found emails have taken 3 weeks to be responded to and usually they aren't very helpful.

Someone needs to come up with something better - just a shame there is so much legal stuff/money to be invested in setting up a company like this.

The latest moronic message from these mental midgits provides the evidence that PayPal's online form is not actually checked by a human:

    Dear Will Spencer,

Thank you for inquiring as to how to restore access to your account.

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account and need more information to help us provide you with secure service. Until we can collect this information, your access to sensitive account features will be limited.

To return your account to regular standing, please complete the checklist items indicated when you login to your account and click on the link provided on the "Account Overview" page.

The link will appear as: "Your account access is limited: Click here for Details."

Once you complete all of the checklist items, our Account Review team will review your case and send you an email with the outcome of the review. Cases are reviewed in the order they are received.

We regret any inconvenience, and we would like to restore your access as soon as possible.

Please do not respond to this email, as responses to this message will not be answered.

    Sincerely,

    PayPal Account Review Team

I've asked, but apparently everyone who knows the answer is in that "other department" which cannot be contacted by telephone, email, or online form.

I used the online form again and specifically asked for a response from a human. I received the same completely nonsensical automated response.

As PayPal has no effective competitors, I am currently forced to do business with them. However, I fully intend to make them pay for all of the grief they are causing me. I will do this if it means that I have to hire someone from Bangladesh to call them on the phone every day to ask them about my account. This will cost them money in terms of customer service costs. I will also write about my unpleasant experiences with PayPal and make sure that my articles are distributed widely across the Internet. This will cost PayPal in terms of brand value.

We as consumers should not allow faceless corporations to push us around. The type of behavior which PayPal is currently engaged in should be punished so that PayPal, and all other corporations, learn the cost of failing to provide customer service.

This would be the sixth or seventh time they have limited my account -- the fourth time this week.

I don't recall the first few times well, they occurred over the course of many years.

I've seen all of these emails before...

Personally... I sent a) the cover page b) my passport and c) a typed out letter stating that I could not provide the bill/bank statement. It wasn't even reviewed by a human, the cover page was what got things rolling. I then called them to get them to process it faster, and they handed me over to the Senior Executive to explain my situation - i.e. their age policy change. They unlimited my account... But two days later, kaboom - they asked for a detailed explanation on the last 10 payments sent/received.

    P.S. They like fax.

P.P.S. PayPal's customer support sucks, but it's not the worst I've ever dealt with. Try Belkin.

If I were a local phone call to them, I would fax them an endless loop of black paper.

At least with Belkin there are alternatives. Logitech is pretty darned good!

With PayPal, the competitors are equally bad or even worse.
