Thread: Question: Wordpress Hosting Service

Hi,

I'm keen on WordPress and all stuff around it. As I have skill in programming, I hack my wordpress installations to add more functionnality and improve my themes. I'm doing all this things since 1 years, so we can say that I know WordPress and know where to resolve problems and ask questions.

Some month ago I was asking on DP for partners to work with me in a wordpress installation service coming with hosting.. but no one was serious and interested. Now, I'm thinking about launching an hosting service (not a company) coming with wordpress support and wordPress-adapted shared plans. This kind of company exist for proxy but not for blogs...

Do you think it can work ?

I don't want to make huge money and host tons of clients, I just want to help webmasters like you and me and share with them my love of Wordpress ^^

If you market the service as a Wordpress host who install and maintain WP for the same monthly fee as normal hosting I think you could be successful. Tell your potential customers about the difference between what you do and a regular host who only offers Fantastico.

I'm sure if you can give several good reasons why the customer should trust you and list the benefits of your service you'll be successful.

The thing is, proxy make money straight away.

I mean soon after you create a proxy website --> slap adsense and other monetization means -->submit it to hundreds of toplist --> money start coming in (I know it's an over simplified example he he he)
but with blog, there are still so many things need to be done before you start to see the first dollar in your account.

So I believe IMHO you need to come up with more than "A hosting service with wordpress support" idea... CMIIW...

I think it could be an interesting idea if you are able to target the right people and are able to get them to your website.

We are able to provide some cheap reseller accounts/dedicated servers if you want.

If you can come up with something good at reasonable price, then I believe it will work.

Many people use Wordpress and they don't know much/anything about it. I, for one, would be interested in customization service (for both themes and WP), service for upgrading large number of blogs, and making scripts work with WP. Hopefully this gives some ideas to you

I don't use Wordpress at the moment, but I can see a need for it in the future, and if I do I would happily pay to have someone else keep my install upto date and make sure all plugins are compatible, that themes work 100% of the time, and that backups are made and automatically deposited in my root folder so that I can download them. Theme customizations might not be part of my needs, but I think at a reasonable price would be a very popular offering.

I think it would work pretty well, especially if you approached companies rather than individuals with the idea. Sell the company the idea that a blog would be good for their business, which is true.
