Thats pretty standard to have your property repossessed by the local Gov if they have reason to believe it was bought with ill gotten money.
I think this case the guy is getting off pretty well. More then likely you would probably end up both in jail and have your property confiscated. You would lose it all.
In the end crime doesn't pay.

It won't take long for the scammers to move offshore.
