Selling a Site to a Newbie

    Interesting.
In the past I have sold sites to people who did not have a clue as to what to do.
    EG: hosting, domain transfers, etc.
Usually it was just explaining to them what they have to do, etc.

Now I have someone interested in buying one of my sites who has no idea of what it is he is buying.
    It is an ad board.
I have tried to discourage him, but he is a persistent cuss.

He expects me to sell him the site then guide and help him.
I told him no, he buys, he is on his own.

Would you sell a site, especially one that will take the new owner time to run, to someone without a clue?

How much guidance and help would you give to the new owner?

    Hi Dawg,

How much guidance and help have you given me???

Tons of valuable information over the years

What has it earned you repeat business.

I would sell the site to him, then have him join this forum. He can post all questions here that way he could get all members advice to help him.

You can answer and so can others.

Watching what the pros do and how they do it is the best learning tool I have found.

    Why do I love you?

Truthfully in this particular case, the potential buyer has zip experience and has no clue as to what it will take to run this site.
I can help on getting hosting, moving the domain, even move the site.
But to continue on for a few months? Beyond me unless he wants to pay me for my time.
    Which he won't do.

Now I have not heard from him after my last email, so maybe he decided that I was right, this site is not for him.

The best way to learn is 'to do". As long as he backs-up on a regular basis, he should be fine.

Backing up is not the problem.

It is running the ad board.

That he does not have a clue.

Do you know what an ad board is?
    And how to run one?

I would sell the site and go with Sami's advice regarding support.

It really depends on whether you would be willing to help or whether you have the time to do so.

I once had a someone buy one of my sites, but prior to making the purchase he told me; he knew nothing at all. I said I would give him my time, if I was paid for it. He agreed and I spent about an hour/day, for about a week explaining how the site works, how it makes and money, and how to market/promote.

Or simply, put, you can follow what Sami had stated before.
