I am going to promote some new site, and one of the link building techniques will be forum posting. I know that the biggest is better, but in your opinion, how many posts will be optimal per one forum?
I don't really know why people are so excited to post on forums for links. Unless you are providing tremendous quality to your post, no one is going to click through to your site. More importantly, with so many outbound links, is there really any link juice to gain from getting links on a forum? If you're just posting to get links, dedicate your time to other things. My personal favorite is the revised link wheel.
I am Global Moderator on joomla.org forum (joomla.org has PR10) and I ban every day users who are building links. It is ugly, but I let them do some work before I hit the button "Purge all". I am emotional about Joomla and nice girls .

Maximum of 5 post per forum is better! Don't exceed much in posting especially if you still a newbie coz you might be banned.
I would say find forums that allow signatures and are around your Niche. Then go through a bunch of forums answering other peoples questions and once you have answered a bunch on each Put your Link in your signature and it will populate to all your forum posts. Build up your rep as someone who knows something and is willing to help and people will be more likely to click your links.
Frankly I think forum posting as a marketing method will go the way of blog commenting, and become worthless, as it should. This very forum is a good example. We get TONS of people posting just so they can sneak in their signature link. They have ZERO interest in providing value or sticking around to be a part of this community, even if they accidentally end up somehow contributing a tiny bit. Intention matters. If your intent is solely to use a forum to get a link, and nothing more, it will show, and admins/moderators are getting good at noticing that (just as bloggers got good at figuring out spam comments from genuine ones).
Your marketing methods should align with what you really want to do. Forum posting is gonna be good only if you actually WANT to post regardless of whether you get a link or not, and getting a link would just be a neat side-effect, and a bit of extra encouragement. This way, not only may you get that link, but you build genuine reputation that comes with genuine contribution. But if you're not willing to do that I suggest staying away from forum posting altogether.
Forum Posting is main technique of Link Building Techniques.....forum posting is mainly discussion to other members....
Simply because too many people use forums as a place to copy and paste stuff.

Yes, adding nothing to threads is annoying to admins/mods.
Like: great post!, nice article!, and so forth.
forum posting, link exchange, directories, articles, they are all good for SEO
Consider the most important, popular and dofollow sites, usually they are the ones u have to look for
